Welcome to the official Saints Row question thread. I had to make a new one because I ran out of room to update it and the other one was getting a bit cluttered and off topic at times. I will try to update the front page as often as I can.
I'll be updating this first page with everyones questions and Volitions answers... Before you ask your question please read the Game Info page and especially the FAQ section. Please don't repeat questions or ask pointless/stupid questions. I will not put up unworthy questions. By the way.. volitions answers will be highlighted in BOLD.
Also if your question has not been anserewd... " V-Scourge: First, I'd like to say there's no point in repeating questions. If we don't reply to one, it's because:
1. We don't know the answer. Sometimes we can get the answer, sometimes not. 2. We know, but can't respond to it at this time.
Please understand this, and be patient. There's no need to feel snubbed if we don't hop right on your question. "
Please stay on topic, Thank You. Now ask away and hopefully you get answered :)
Single Player Questions:
What are the achievements in the game? V-JH:"Achievements: I'm not telling, you're going to have to wait a bit But there are 43 of them."
Will there be any other music in the game besides rap? V-JH:"There is a lot more music in the game than the demo. Over 130 songs in the game, including 6 original songs... 3 songs in the demo Yes, there is rap and HH but also many different other types."
Are there Police stations in the game? It feels like the Police just come from nowhere. V-JH:There are, and they are involved in several missions.
How big is the world in Saint's Row? V-Scourge:It's been awhile since I calculated it, but I believe the city is approximately 10 square miles. That counts the landmasses and the river between them, but not all the ocean/lake water.
crazyeyes1234 Asks: How many guns will there be in the game? V-JH:There are quite a few different guns and a lot of variations on them (like a gold plated Desert Eagle).
brand0n23 Asks: Any other vehicles in the game that we can control? Like Motorcycles or helicopters? V-JH:No flying vehicles, no motorcycles, no boats. We wanted to do all of these, but we simply did not have enought time.
How long is the game? V-Scourge:Game duration varies from player to player. If you do some activities, but stick mostly to the missions, I think it was averaging 35-40 hours or so. If you want to get 100% completion on all activities, at least double that. V-JH:Bigger than VC, but smaller than SA. Big enough to be fun, but not so big that you spend most of your time going from point A to point B. At least that's what we're hoping
And game time to real time? V-JH:It used to be about 20 minutes of gameplay time for a day, but I think we made it a bit faster. I'll check.
Can you ride bikes or play any sports? V-JH:No. Well, you can swim but I wouldn't call it a sport in SR
Smoked991 Asks: How is the saving system in the game? Can you save at anytime or only after a missions ends? V-JH:You can save at any time and it will restore you to the nearest save point or the nearest crib you own, whichever is closer.
And can you create a girl in game or is it just a guy? V-Fehr:Greetings , There is only a male player mesh at the moment, but thatââ¬â¢s not to say you canââ¬â¢t TRY to create a female looking face. Hereââ¬â¢s how it goes down. In the full version of the game, you will have more detailed controls in creating your face. Many face sliders come with an ââ¬Åadvancedââ¬? button. Iââ¬â¢m happy to report that you can get prettyââ¬Â¦ prettyââ¬Â¦PRETTY creative with our customization system. At work Iââ¬â¢ve seen some oddball characters created. In some cases itââ¬â¢s actually horrifying what some have come up with, and I mean that is a good way.
What other kinds (if any) of downloadable content will be provided after SR's release? V-JH:Extra Single Player missions, more weapons, automobiles, etc? Customization packs (clothing), weapons, maps, maybe vehicles. You should probably keep telling us what you'd like to see after you start playing.
What glitches have been fixed that we experienced in the demo? I've seen some minor rag doll glitches and a slightly major jump glitch. Heres some examples of what I'm talking about ( & ) I hope this glitch doesn't become the next "Super Bounce." V-JH:We have fixed as many glitches as we could/knew of. If you are referring to the "breakdancing" glitch, this has been fixed.
About how many different kinds of clothing can you choose from and are they only "thug" looking style... I mean I know this is a gangster game but it would be neat to create any kind of character.. like if I wanted to my my dude look like a cowboy or a rocker with punk clothing. V-JH:Not only "thug" style. You have so many choices I can't list them. Make sure to check all the different stores, as they carry different inventories.
MaxHavok Asks: Does the radio always restart when you get out and get back in, or does it contiously play? V-JH:It continues to play. You also have an option which allows you to have the radio "always on" or not. When you select "always on", your vehicle's radio will always be on when you leave it and come back. Check the Options tab.
Slugger97 Asks: Will there be a Saints Row 2? V-JH:You, the gamers, will decide this . If Saint's Row is a big success, there probably will be a Saint's Row 2.
Viper_1090 Asks: How will the 64 car garage work? Will it be a scroll menu or will it actually be a parking lot that you drive your car out of? V-Scourge:You enter the garage, then choose the car you want from a list. As you scroll, the actual car is loaded and displayed. Select it and it remains in the garage, where you can get in and drive off.
ringstorm2k2 Asks: Can you customize the way you hold the gun like sideways or normal? V-Scourge:No, that cannot be customized
KuntryTime Asks: Will there be an extensive amount of tattoos to place upon your character? V-Scourge:Tons of tattoos, not sure of the exact count. A few hundred I'd guess. They're placed on predetermined areas of the body (but there's many locations), and can't be resized. No custom tattoos
Deuce Bob Asks: Are the online levels an open world? V-Scourge:Multiplayer levels aren't fully open world. They're custom levels for multiplayer, adapted from sections of the single-player city, plus many new/custom levels. Many are quite huge.Is the online levels an open world?
stick_dictator Asks: Will there be any sort of content lock? V-JH: Yes. Plenty of things to unlock
Did you fix it so that in those few moment that he does talks, it matches the race of your character? V-Scourge:Yes, his voice is determined by the racial preset you used.
ShAwN19 Asks: Will all of the downloadable content cost money or will some of it be free? I don't know for sure, but I doubt any of the DLC will be free.
Can clans create a custom clan car that depends on their wealth and would only be used in clan matches? Im pretty sure the answer for this question is going to be "no", but I'm just making sure because that would be pretty awesome V-JH: When you create a gang, you decide who to invite. You can then play matches against other gangs, so the answer is that nothing prevents you from doing what you describe
Why did you pick Purple as the Saint's Color ? V-JH: We started developing SR over a year before SA was released. We knew that people would accuse us of being a clone. When we saw that SA used green, we decided to change the Saints' colors.
Revek Asks: Have the alcohol/smoking effects been lengthened since the demo build? V-JH: No
Viper_1090 Asks: Will custom soundtracks be able to be only played in your car? For instance, will there be a music input option aside from the 360 one? Kinda like san andreas, where there is one radio station that has all your music. If so.. will you be able to hear your music on the outside of a car? V-JH: You can play your own music if you prefer. The game also offers an "MP3" player that you can use for custom soundtracks. Go to the Music Stores (not available in the Demo).
Smokeybatista Asks: Is there addiction to the drugs? V-Scourge:No.
Red laces18 asks: Can you stick-up couples or people in the street or in their household too? V-Scourge:No, the only gunpoint holdups are against shopkeepers. You can mug people for money/weapons anywhere, though.
Saints_Row Asks: What percentage of buildings can be entered into in the full game? V-Scourge:I don't think anyone's calculated that. Much higher than any other game of this type, though.
HuckHouston Asks: Will we be able to rob the same store more than one time? Because, in the demo, that isn't so. V-Scourge:Yes.
Ant_P Asks: How come the drugs make you knock people high into tha air?....Kinda fake!... V-Scourge:Fake, sure, but fun.
ManchesterMan22 Asks How will Wheels on your pimped ride work do we get to choose a size for them or is it one set size for each vehicle? V-Scourge:One size, but multiple rim styles to choose from.
Are there any interactions with the NPCs on the street? V-Scourge:There's no back-and-forth conversation system, if that's what you mean.
In Oblivion you can remove items from people's bodies, even pickpocket. Can you remove items or pickpocket? V-Scourge:No, sorry.
In an earlier answer about downloadable content that might come to the marketplace 'maps' was stated as one. I take that to mean you can add more neighborhoods, correct? V-Scourge:I believe the maps he was referring to were multiplayer maps. Beyond that, I can't really say.
will the cars roof take damage b/c in GTA SA the roof did not take any damage ? V-Scourge:All parts of the cars can be damaged, yes.
In the demo I noticed that the saint's have crappy cars, Im wondering later on when you take over more, do they get upgraded cars? V-Scourge:Absolutely. The higher-ranking Saints drive some of the sweetest cars in the game. You'll see.
What can you do in your crib? V-Scourge:Get cash, weapons, change clothes, save the game, etc.
Do the gangs try to shoot at you, even if you don't bother them? V-Scourge: Depends on what gang notoriety level you have with them. They might attack you on sight, or just toss some insults your way.
Is there a noticible graphics change between the demo and the final version? V-Scourge:We didn't dumb-down the visuals for the demo or anything. With respect to visual quality of the SR district, what's in the demo is what's in the full game. Except for time-of-day, weather, more car/NPC types, etc. of course.
Does the time of day change in Multiplayer? V-Odekar:No. It remains static, though in a custom match you can choose what time of day to play in.
Is there a taunting? V-Odekar:There are three taunts in MP, that you can perform using the d-pad.
How many cribs can you own? V-Odekar:There are 4 cribs that the player can acquire during the course of the game. How you get them is for you to find out
I noticed in the demo that after the friendly brawl with the Saints, you get a gun, but howcome they don't give you (or you have to go get) clothes that match the Saints colors? If they are recruiting you in a gang, I would think they would want you to display to others who's gang you're in... V-Scourge:It's up to the player how to dress the PC. There's advantages to flying the Saints' colors. You'll have to wait and see.
Can you customize your spray painted tags? V-Scourge:No, just the regular Saints tag. Not a bad idea for the future, though.
Are our "homies" more accurate when using firearms in the final build of the game? V-Scourge: I believe it depends on their "level". Some recruits are more badass than others, and carry better weapons or shoot more accurately. Accuracy of friendly AI is a big gameplay balance issue. It's really easy to make an AI a perfectly accurate shot, but how fun would that be for the player?
Anyways, will there be road blocks and such with a higher wanted level? V-Scourge: Definitely!
Will there be subtitles for the main story? I am a hearing impaired gamer and greatly depend on this. V-Scourge:Yes. All cutscenes (story, activity, otherwise) have subtitle support.
Numerous Questions Regarding V-Sync: V-Scourge: SR does not use v-sync, either in the demo or the full game. During development we analyzed the issue and concluded the potential framerate hit with v-sync was too severe for our particular title.
To explain the pros/cons a bit more... If v-sync is enabled, the framerate of any game is limited to certain values. It must be an integer that divides evenly into the output device's refresh rate.
In most cases, the TV/monitor in question is running at 60Hz. That means the game's framerate is limited to 60, 30, 20, 15, 12, 10 (and so on) frames-per-second.
So if the game would normally be running at 29 FPS, turning v-sync on would force it down to 20 FPS, almost a 30% hit. Likewise, if the game is running at 35 or 40 FPS (or anything below 60.0), it would be forced down to 30 FPS with v-sync enabled.
We felt this was too big of a price to pay for our particular game, and some screen shearing/tearing in rare situations was a worthwhile trade-off.
We have contacted a few players that have reported more common screen tearing than we observed in the demo, mainly to get more information about their hardware configuration. While it's most likely beyond the control of the game software, if we find any configuration changes that help, we'll certainly share the tips with everyone.
Regardless, any tearing should be improved across the board for everyone in the full game, due to the overall framerate optimizations that were made after the demo build.
ValiantSaint:Now I know that the devs have said the framerate has been improved in the final build, but by how much? By 50%? 5%? How much? I've had the game nearly stop in a fightfire (Police cars + gang members + pipe bombs= mucho slowdown)
V-JH: By about 40 to 50%
Valiant Saint: Tearing: I know this has been covered by the devs as well, but not in detail. Just what is being done about it? (And I know that there's no V-Sync) How much of it has been eradicated?
V-JH: We tested this thoroughly and still saw a minimal amount of tearing in some cutscenes, but it's really minor.
ValiantSaint: I have seen some great things in the demo, but some real dumb things as well. Just how much has the AI evolved from the demo? Do you still get people vanishing through the floor? How about NPCs floating around in a car that you've stolen? Just how much has the game changed?
We have fixed all the AI bugs that we were aware of. This is a big game, so I cannot promise that there won't be anything happening ever, but most of these are gone.
How many multiplayer maps will there be? V-JH: "The game will ship with eleven MP levels. More will be coming as downloadable content."
Will there be a different demo that hits marketplace? Maybe like a multiplayer demo? V-Scourge:The Live Marketplace demo that's available August 1 is the same demo that appears on the pre-order DVDs
How is the online setup? Like is there going to be a custom list where we can see all the servers? Or something like matchmaking? V-JH:Matchmaking.
Matchmaking really? Like Halo 2 matchmaking? V-Odekar:Yup. Pretty much exactly like H2.
There's no server list. We use a match making system similar to that of Halo 2. Additionally a player can setup a lobby and allow his friends to join the lobby and then play a game with just themselves or match make with other players.
Our lobby is pretty cool actually cause when you join the lobby you start out in a warehouse and you can run around and shoot each other while you are waiting for other people to join. The host can also make custom changes to the modes and levels before the game begins
If you want to play team games do you HAVE to make a clan or can you go play with random people? V-Odekar:Nope. You can matchmake into team games by yourself, with your friends, or with your gang
Is it separate from playing with clans then playing with random people? I don't want to join a game and everyone on my team doesn't know each other while everyone on the opposite team are in a clan togeather. V-Odekar:There are gang matches in which only gangs can participate. However, you and your buddies (gang or otherwise) can matchmake together in non-gang match.
Is Demo Derby a mode online? If not...could you add it in via marketplace or something? I really think that would be an awesome mode to play online w/ friends. V-Odekar:Sorry, there's no Demo Derby online and at this point we are not planning on adding any new modes to the game.
Ryder77 Asks: Will you be able to create a match if you wanted to just play with some friends in a deathmatch instead of random people? V-Odekar:Yup.
Also if you can create a match, how custom can you make it? Can you choose which weapons, vehicles, explosives, levels etc.. V-Odekar:Yup. You can choose all of these things.
Will there be ranking online? V-Odekar:Yup. Both indivduals and gangs have their own rankings. Each mode has it's own leaderboard.
About how long is an average game of blinged out ride take to complete? V-Odekar:About 15-20 minutes
How many teams can play at once? Only Two teams? In single player you have 4 main gangs, so it would seem like you could maybe have at least 4 gangs online fighting it out... that would make 3 players per side... since you can only have 12 people in a room. V-Odekar:You can only have 2 teams at a time. However, at the beginning of the game we randomly assign each team one of 4 gangs from SR single player.
When playing online is there AI walking around the city streets? Also in a game like blinged out ride.. you would think that when driving around the city you'd run into other motorist civilians or pedestrians.. as well as the police.. I doubt it but that would be awesome.. more obstacles in your way to bling out you ride other then a city with just the other gang.. V-Odekar:The only AI we have in MP is in the co-op modes and for that we only have enemy AI, no civillians or pedestrians.
KuntryTime Asks: How many times does it take you to kill someone with a pistol whip to the back of the head online? V-Odekar:Approx. 3 to 4 times.
KuntryTime Asks: Can you match up online line like 1 vs 1, 2 vs 2, 2 vs 1, 6 vs 3 etc? V-Odekar:Not in match making, but you can setup a custom match in a lobby and do this.
KuntryTime Asks: Is there a sniper rifle available online? If so is there any idication to where you're getting shot from?(Will you show up on the radar or anything like that) V-Odekar:Yes there are sniper rifles. In MP we use hit indicators to show where you are getting shot from.
crazyeyes1234 Asks: What determines how much money you make from an online match? V-Odekar:You always make some base money after every match. If you or your team wins you make more and you get bonus cash for killing 5 people with out dying, 10 people and if you never die during a match.
hey can i car jack someone online? V-Odekar:No. We decided that would be too frustrating.
Devs, when we saw multiplayer videos the player just appeared in the car as opposed to opening it. Is this in the final game? And if so, why? V-Odekar:For the speed at which MP games are played it seemed too slow to have the player open and close the door like in SP.
can co-op be done on the same xbox 360 and If you can do that can you like ditch your mission and just rob banks with a friend V-Odekar:No, you can only do co-op over live or with syslink. You can't do it on the same box. The co-op levels are designed to just do the mission you are given. You can't roam freely through the city.
When the host is choosing the options for a match, what limits are put on the vehicle section? Could you pick any vehicle from singleplayer or is it categorized into different groups? V-Odekar:We picked a smaller subset of all the vehicles that you can get in single player.
Can clans create a custom clan car that depends on their wealth and would only be used in clan matches? Im pretty sure the answer for this question is going to be "no", but I'm just making sure because that would be pretty awesome. V-Odekar:No, sorry. Nice idea, though.
also is there any new multiplayer gametypes planned for the future? V-Odekar:Not at this time.
NDE88 Asks: Will we be able to boot betrayers or will we have to vote to kick team killers and suiciders in multiplayer? Thanks V-Odekar:The host of a lobby can kick people from the lobby if he doesn't want to play with them. Right now there's no way to kick people in game. You can however rate people through the X-Box 360 Dashboard and if you rate them negativley then you won't get matched with them anymore.
OMGWTFBBQ111 Asks: So how do TKers in Match-making get booted???
Deuce BOB Asks: Will online mode have the same guns as story mode?
Will the game support the xbox 360 video camera? I highly doubt it but I wanted to ask anyways. V-JH:No.
stick_dictator Asks: Is there going to be an option too take out the Cursing? V-JH: No. Well, I guess you coul turn the sound off :D
DirtPipeMilkShake420 Asks: On the technical side, i was just wondering if the game uses the parallax shader? V-Scourge:SR has shaders with parallax/offset mapping support, yes. The most obvious use is probably around the SR church, actually. All the large flagstones that make up the walls and foundation use it, if you look closely.
Selgae Asks: Is the game completely 100% finished as of right now? V-Scourge:We can't comment on the completion status. I can tell you it will be in stores Aug 29th, though.
dejay Asks: I noticed the moon was a crescent in one of the videos. Do the phases of the moon change over the course of a month? I'd be really impressed with the level of detail if that were the case. V-Scourge:Yes, the moon has phases.
Deuce BOB Asks When i was playing the demo i got disconected from xbox live everytime for at least 4 days and then i could played the demo while online after the 4 days. Why did this happend? was there a update for the demo?
In multiplayer, If you setup a "custom lobby" with your friends, you will be able to boot people out. What if you jump into some match-making with random people, and you're playing Team Gangsta Brawl. What happens when someone Teamkills/commits suicide in a match-making game??? Can TKers even be booted from match-making???
