Tidosho's Vehicle Powertrain Mod - Release Thread

Welcome to the Release thread for Tidosho's Vehicle Powertrain Mod (TVPM) This is a little mod I’ve done to fix some of the big and small vehicles in SR2 that use Front Wheel Drive (FWD), when they should really be Rear Wheel Drive (RWD).

This mod concentrates on the drivetrain, including increasing torque, max speed and adding gears/adjusting gear ratios.

For discussions on my Mod, please visit my other thread, by clicking HERE. This thread is for RELEASES ONLY, off-topic posts will be REPORTED and REMOVED.

Version 2.0 - DEPRECATED - Use for Archive purposes only - See end of thread for latest version. Remember to keep Discussion in my Discussion thread, don't post here!

Changes

Version 2.0 expands on v1.0 by not only changing the drive wheels, but also improving torque and max speed. My initial drivetrain changes in v1.0 were immensely sucessful, thanks to the feedback from the testers and modders.

Vehicles modified

Septic Avenger - truck_2dr_septic01_veh.xtbl

 - Modified the drive to Rear

 - Increased torque to 950 from 850. Makes the truck set off from idle faster, and gives more power.

 - Max speed increased to 90 from 70 - Nitrous speed increased from 80 to 100

Stilwater Municipal - truck_2dr_garbage01_veh.xtbl

 - Modified drive to Rear

 - Increased torque to 980 from 880. Makes the truck set off from idle faster, and gives more power.

 - Max speed increased to 90 from 70 - Nitrous speed increased from 80 to 100

MixMaster - truck_2dr_construct01_veh.xtbl

- Modified drive to Rear

 - Torque increased to 1000 from 800. Makes the truck set off from idle faster, and gives more power.

 - Max speed increased to 90 from 70 - Nitrous speed increased from 80 to 100

Bear APC - sp_apc01_veh.xtbl

 - Increased torque to 980 from 880. Makes the APC set off from idle faster, and gives more power.

 - Max speed increased to 90 from 70 - Nitrous speed doesn't have a setting, this will be added in v3.0 following further tests

 - Wheel drive changed from front to rear twin axle to stop understeer and loss of power on cornering and hills

Voyage - van_4dr_04_veh.xtbl

 - Increased torque to 600 from 300. Makes the van set off from idle faster, and gives more power.

 - Max speed increased to 90 from 70 - Nitrous speed increased from 80 to 100

 - Wheel drive changed from front to rear

Topher - van_4dr_03_veh.xtbl

 - Increased torque to 600 from 300. Makes the van set off from idle faster, and gives more power.

 - Max speed increased to 90 from 70 - Nitrous speed increased from 80 to 100

 - Wheel drive changed from front to rear

 Go! -  car_2dr_standard06_veh.xtbl

 - Wheel drive changed from front to rear. Had to add the lines, but this seems to set it rather than being overridden elsewhere.

 - I didn't want to increase speed or torque of the car as there seems to be a problem with the back end swinging out too much on corners since changing

the drive wheels. I think this may be a steering angle issue. Further testing needed!

Komodo - wagon_4dr_01_veh.xtbl

 - Torque increased to 490 from 290. Makes the Komodo set off from idle faster, and gives more power.

 - Max speed increased to 90 from 70 - Nitrous speed increased from 80 to 100

 - Wheel drive changed from front to rear

KeyStone - wagon_4dr_sprt01_veh.xtbl

Changed drive to Rear to improve driving capability and reduce understeer

Maximum speed increased to 95, and Max Nitrous speed to 105

Conclusion

Overall, these vehicles are much more fun to drive, especially the Komodo, which should have its name changed, as it is now a lot faster, and sets off quicker than a Komodo Dragon! I need you guys as the testers to do my testing for me, as I'm currently testing in jitter-lag-crash land on my laptop!

Known Issues

The Go! car doesn't seem to want to go around corners correctly since I adjusted the drivetrain. The back end swings out too much as I mentioned in my last post, so I haven't increased torque or top speed on it yet, pending further testing. I think it's a steering angle issue, or that the car needs more downforce on the rear, as it's always been an eager cornering car, even when it was Front Wheel drive. It's going to be a nippy little motor by the time I've finished with it, rather than an Austin Maestro!

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Those of you who have our GoTR mod installed will need to REBUILD it using my /modified/ files, and the ones from the GoTR /modified/ package, otherwise the GoTR mod will stop working correctly. Any of my previously changed files in the 1.8 beta can be SAFELY overwritten.

Files Included

There were definitely some vehicles that needed a handling rebalance.

They were SO aggravating and arghsome.

-Sorry, please remove this.  I can't read! LOL

Version 2.5 - Remember to keep Discussion in my Discussion thread, don't post here!

Changes

Version 2.5 expands on v2.0 by fixing more problematic vehicles, and giving them a boost. I've also fixed an issue that was remaining from v2.0.

Issues Fixed from v2.0

Thanks to Foamcup's help I managed to fix the screwy handling issue of the Go! car! She's a nippy lil motor now and won't slide overenthusiastically round corners!

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Before we start, there's a further issue I've hit in my tuning. Increasing the Maximum speed on some vehicles isn't having much of an effect. We believe it's being limited somewhere to stop any lagging and load issues similar to the "world disappearing" act SR1 used to do when the game couldn't load chunks fast enough, where vehicles would disappear and the game would halt. You'd be sat there in an invisible car, and weapons like rockets and grenades would fire through the road!

This issue is pending further testing, but we feel it may not be able to be removed, due to the possible technical issues it would introduce, and the amount of complaints we'd get. The game is jittery enough for some!

Vehicles modified

Version 2.5 includes ALL vehicles from the previous versions, and adds the vehicles below:

Titan - truck_2dr_armored01_veh.xtbl

 - Modified drivetrain to Rear wheel (Thanks, Foamcup!)

 - Torque increased to 1000 from 850

 - Max speed increased to 95, and max nitrous speed increased to 105

Peterliner - truck_2dr_semi01_veh.xtbl

 - Increased torque to 2100 from 1800

 - Increased max speed to 90 from 75, and increased nitrous speed to 100

 - Changed to RWD from FWD (A roadtrain, front wheel drive???) thanks to Foamcup!

Westbury - minivan_4dr_01_veh.xtbl

 - Increased torque to 700 from 300

 - Increased max speed to 120 from 70, and nitrous to 130 from 80

 - Increased minimum revs to 950 from 850

 - Changed the car to Rear wheel drive from Front

Hayate - car_2dr_sports07_veh.xtbl - Thanks, foamcup for alerting me to this one

 - Increased max speed to 120 from 80, and Nitrous max speed to 130

 - Torque increased from 420 to 620

 - Changed to Rear wheel drive from Front

DonoVan - sp_shortbus01_veh.xtbl

 - Increased torque to 900 from 700

 - Increased max speed to 95, and Max nitrous speed to 105

 - Removed the automatically opening driver door on entry, as it's silly! The driver is supposed to open it! The passenger door is supposed to open on its own by the driver in the cab, but it no longer does since I did this, it looks like both doors aren't independent. No biggie, really. Passengers will open it by themselves.

Buffalo - sp_rv01_veh.xtbl

This is the STANDARD Buffalo, and not the one used in the Drug Labs

 - Increased torque to 600 from 424 as the Buffalo is quite slow to set off and accelerate. The van doesn't spend so much time accelerating through gears as it did.

 - Increased top speed to 90 from 75, and nitrous max speed to 100

Newman Mail Van - truck_2dr_mail01_veh.xtbl

 - Changed from FWD to RWD

 - Increased torque to 350 from 180 to give more power

 - Increased max speed to 80 from 60, and max nitrous speed to 90

Known Issues

See Important Note above. I need my testers to ADD Torque in Mechanic to these vehicles, and report how they handle with the extra as well as what I've put on. Add Nitrous too, and test full steering lock, burnout and different throttle levels whilst accelerating. My ideal place for this is the concrete strip next to the airport runway where the Garage is. Not ON the runway, you'll keep hitting suddenly appearing planes!!

IMPORTANT NOTE 2:

Those of you who have our GoTR mod installed will need to REBUILD it using my /modified/ files, and the ones from the GoTR /modified/ package, otherwise the GoTR mod will stop working correctly. Any of my previously changed files in the GoTR mod can be SAFELY overwritten.

Bugfix Release version 2.6

This release fixes a few long overdue (for that I'm deeply sorry, life took a dive) bug fixes. I did have a few extra changes, but suffered a hard drive failure so need to re-do them for v3.0

Go!

Torque lowered to 400 as testers reported that the thing was way too frantic!

Hayate

Massive handling issues arose since I changed the drivetrain and upped torque, so I've took the torque back to original. It's a gang vehicle anyway, and we've come to a general agreement that gang cars shouldn't be modified, as it'd give gangs advantages, and the game engine cheats enough as it is! If Foamcup can do a clone of it in the future, I'll tweak that. We'll see how the game goes with just the drivetrain changed for now.

Hopefully, I'll be around a lot more from now on. I took on a little too much at work, and looking after friends and their life stuff, and it's calmed down. I've missed you guys immensely!

Download

I've changed my distribution method into a single zip, so follow my instructions below:

GoTR Mod Users/Testers
: Anyone using the GoTR mod should download the zip, and use the files in the /modified/ folder inside the zip, and rebuild patch.vpp with the GoTR files, replacing any of my files already in there with these.

Stock SR2 PC Users: Those on Vanilla should download the zip, and overwrite your stock patch_vpp file with mine that lives in the /stock-users/ directory inside the zip..
