New temporary Stilwater.info home!

Guys,

I'm in negotiations with Rick (who created Gibbed's Tools) and who also owns stilwater.info, to take over the site and domain. Until that happens, I've manually created (hours of blood, sweat and tears, LoL!) an almost exact clone of it for us to use and add to!

I'm hosting it on my company site. It does not have any PHP errors any more, and all adverts are gone, and will be seriously moderated.

I'm recruiting Admins, Moderators, and Contributors. You must have knowledge of MediaWiki, and how to moderate, lock etc. Ideally you'll also have experience of MySQL and PHP, but I won't be allowing anyone else access to the backbone of this server, as it's my company one. You'll get full access to its new home, once set up and moved.

We need to get this site thriving, loved, and filled, with guides, tutorials, and general modding info, for us and the community. Send me a PM, and I'll set things up. We'll be locking the pages for Admin only, to stop vandalism by unscrupulous people.

Thanks for taking the initiative to make this happen. It will be a fantastic resource and information repository for all of us, as well as any new modder who wants to learn.

I'll certainly be contributing as much as I can. :)

Thanks for the meaningless bloat, Sam. Much appreciated. If you didn't understand, why post junk like that? You could use the PM system!

EDIT: I've flagged posts #2 - #5 as spam for the Mod to combine into one post. Don't do it again, please Sam. I like my threads informative and clear.

Ninja and Sam, if you register on the wiki I'll set you up as sysops, then you can add your tuts to it. Do you know how to add sidebar links, because I can't fathom it for the life of me! PHPNuke is beckoning me, this Wiki crap is annoying out of this world rocket science rubbish! Adding pages and content is easy enough, the admin stuff gets annoying!

I'm in.  I should have a tutorial up on Monday (weekends are busy for me).  I don't know much about moderating a wiki, but I can learn it if you need me to.

Give me a shout if you need a hand with anything, Tidosho.  I'm more ASP than PHP, but I can adapt.

Thanks guys. Sorry about the way I was last night, Sam. I was tired, hot and bothered. Just don't post rubbish in multiple posts. If anyone's doing a tutorial, this is the way I've found to add one.

1. Register, and log in. The front page is locked to Admin only, so you won't be able to edit that until you're an admin.

2. Think of a title for your tutorial, for example, Creating Shops. Enter "Creating Shops" into the search, and it'll say the page doesn't exist, and that you can create it. Click the "create it" part of the sentence.

3. Create your post in the editor that appears, and use the Upload File link in the toolbox to upload pictures. To insert a picture, use the following syntax, [[File:Gentlemen_of_the_Row_by_kalahee_small.png|center]], replacing the "center" with the desired alignment, and the filename with the filename of the image you uploaded. Try not to externally link to images if possible, this keeps the wiki's integrity, as everything is local on the server.

4. To add your tutorial to the Guides and Tutorials section (link on the front page), use the [[Category:Guides]] tag by pasting or typing it into the bottom of the page.

This is a learning curve for me, I'm too used to easy CMS systems. MediaWiki works a lot differently! View the source of the existing tutorials to see how it's done.

I'm more worried about getting the Wiki filled at the moment Red. The PHP system seems to be OK, I made a few code changes myself, and tested it thoroughly. Do you know anything about MediaWiki? I've made articles on Wikipedia in the past, which uses MW, but administering it is a pain!

I'm having serious trouble getting xtbl code to format correctly in an article I'm doing. Even if I format it as straight carriage returned lines without indenting it posts wrong! This wiki rescue idea of mine is seeming like a bad one. I'm so tempted to stuff it and rewrite it all into a CMS with a HTML page plugin, that'd be easier!

HERE's the link to it if anyone's got ideas..... You need to be Admin to edit, I've locked it all down to stop idiots ruining our hard work, so anyone who isn't Admin, let me know.
