WELCOME to the forum,

I am not 100% but could you not adjust the gamma settings etc to get it similar?

Or maybe that's the consul settings, and not the game settings I'm mixing myself up with?

Wow, J, you on the PC forums?

OT: I'm pretty sure you can, but I can't remember if it's a file to do it with or in-game.

What is it you're asking for specifically, Apollo?  I've never seen the original Saints Row's visuals, so are they darker, moodier, crisper, colder...  I'll go look at some screenshots, but if you're suggesting a global weather/lighting rebalance, I have to tell you, that's no walk in the park. lol

I like Saints Row 1 colors and lighting more than SR2...Colors in SR1 are more..umh..brighter. In saintrs row 2 there's a strange blur and fog that makes the game look less colourfur..
Here are screenshot of Sr1 and comparison video :

Ah, you want Firespite's latest Nighttime and Weather mod that he already released. It is exactly what you're looking for removing that blurry fog and making everything vibrant and bright in sr2. I couldn't live without it. It's already integrated into the latest Gentlemen of the Row release.

Okay, so now that I've seen it...

Saints Row 2 looks better than Saints Row one, generally, BUT - the reason things look crisper and nicer in Saints Row one is because in SR2 Volition applied a haze effect, sort of like what was done in Grand Theft Auto: San Adreas.  I don't like it at all, and it makes the general visual fidelity that much less by blurring the game and getting in the way of the strong colors and other things.  The lighting in SR2 is actually done pretty well - it's the haze and the fog in the distance that wasn't done quite so well.

I say mood lighting and light tinting in games is just ridiculous sometimes, because unless you're playing Alien Vs. Predator roaming a dark, scary ship, you're strolling down a street on planet Earth.  And on the Earth I live on, colors stand out and are every bit as vibrant as what I saw in that Saints Row one screenshot.

However, it's nigh impossible to remove the haze in the game - the best you can do is trick your eyes into thinking it's not there by using complimentary colors, allowing the haze to blend into the background.

In my Weather/Nighttime mod for SR2, I did some huge changes to the game's appearance (the mod is now included in the Gentlemen of the Row pack if you want to try it.)  In the mod, I upped the color saturation globally so the colors aren't as subdued as they once were.  It can be hard to notice the difference during the day, but during nighttime, everything looks a bit better.  To actually do what you're suggesting, however, would be a *huge* undertaking which probably wouldn't be totally successful anyway.  Here's what the Weather mod does though, if you're interested:

As you can see in the second screenshot, the purple really stands out, but the game is still engulfed in a haze.  Note: the haze was non-existant in Red Faction Guerrilla, a Volition title which uses the SR2 engine, and overall the game just looks flat better than SR2.  Therefore, I have no doubt Volition is whipping up a pretty sharp-looking game in SR3 that might appeal more to your sensibilities, because they seem to have learned a lot from this experience.

Edit: You've sparked my interest though - I'm going to see what I can do to make the game look sharper and clearer just because you brought it up. :D
