One of the most frustrating things of all time has happened again.
Has anyone ever sent a system in to SOny to get fixed? I'm not sure if that's the route I want to take...

I cannot say that I have. But, what is more worth it? Sending it in to get fixed or just dropping the cash and getting a new one. Personally, I would weigh the 2 and knowing me, I would just go get a new one and not deal with the headache. The drawback to that is all of the saved info. Unless you havce saved to a USB, you will be pretty much screwed and will have to re-do everything.

Yeah I would like to keep all my data. I have some games on there that I haven't beat yet. UGH! I found a shop that says they can repair it so I might try that. I want to keep this PS3 mostly for the backwards compatibility.

And out of curiosity, how much would this shop charge you? And compare that to the cost of a new game console.

They said there's a shorted fuse which would be about 100$ to fix.

If it is only going to be $100. I would say fix it. Your looking at $300-$400 depending on the grade of the new PS3 right? IDK, I do not have a PS3. I am an Xbox guy.

Haha I usually prefer my 360 too but I like having my PS3 for PS1/PS2 games, some PS3 exclusives like Uncharted and I have a habit of collecting Blu-rays. Yeah, I think you're right! I should probably just get it fixed, back up my data (which I need to find out how to do) and prepare to have to get a new one just in case. :)
