Okay guys, I know some people here have reviewed it, critiqued it, and either praised it/cursed it etc, but I've had it for several days on the 360, some of you know me for giving honest opinions on stuff here so I wanna do a small review here;
Like alot of people, I was surprised to find some of the clothing options - layering, some items (like socks, vests etc) were not here. Having read around, this does not truely reflect the final game. The IS content, has around 80% of the clothes, there will be more in the final game, not to mention future DLCs. So to me the amount of clothes its not an issue.
With the layering - I was surprised this was not in, but having read into it further, it was confirmed on another thread, that this was taken out in order that our MCs and the NPCs can look good. I also think, it would be good for new comers to the saints row series, so they don't have to spend loads and loads of time trying to match clothes/outfits.
Graphically, the character models are truely awesome and is a massive leap forward from SR2 so when putting on the outfits, they do look quite realistic, although slightly cartoony. And as for the using the creation sliders, these have been simplified and streamlined so it does make things easier in terms in 'fine tuning' your character. On the downside - if you try to use a formula from SR2, you won't make the same character, its an entirely new engine. Another downside; you can't always zoom in on the character when customising certain facial features - for instance the mouth you can't zoom in close enough to see how it looks, I had to go back to Ears to zoom in close to have a look. Its even worse when using a standard definition TV.
Alot of people have had high expectations of the IS and thus saints row the third, and were disappointed as a result. But this is only the demo, and the final game and any additional clothing will offset the lack of layering clothes. Also most people are foretting, that character customisation is a small part in the game in the wider scheme of things. We got; car/weapon customisation, crazy gameplay, VTOL, Professor Genki to look forward to and has had an 88% rating from PLAY magazine. GTA has NONE of these, Volition's done a good job so far, and we should just make the best of what we/we'll here in Saints Row the Third. Alot of people will disagree with what I said, but this is only my opinion. My Rating on the Initiation Station; 8.5/10

Good review. I mostly agree. I, too, was surprised that the layers were gone. But seeing how sharp and fluid everything looks, I didn't have a problem with it at all. Little things bugged me though, like the fact there are several times the same shirt with different textures, or two times the same hoody for up/down. But what disappointed me the most with the clothing was the fact the style-selection was gone - like leather, latex, matte, jeans, etc. That alone can make the same piece of clothing look completely different. I have no gripes at all with the characters though. They look really good, and it's really easy to make them look great. Definitely a step up from SR2 in that area. It's true that the zoom thing is a bit bothersome, but playing on PC I didn't have any problem with it personally, as I could see everything crystal clear. But I see how it can be a problem with SDTVs. And like you said, with the amount of DLC coming along, we won't be missing out on clothes any time soon. Which is good, because I find it a little lacking in the women's wardrobe department; most of the clothing options are male, but adapted to the female shape. There aren't many outfits that look feminine. But so far the IS hasn't disappointed me. It's not what I expected, but I'm not really bothered by it, and I can still see the potential with it.

This, EXACTLY this. Why two the same hoodies in the selection instead of one with a style option? Pants look horrible without belts, and even if they have belts, the belts don't fit the jeans. Then there's facial features (moles, warts) of which you can select multiple. Why wasn't this implemented on more things, like piercings? I want a septum AND a lipring. Not a preset that has either all piercings or just one.
DLC should be for everyone, no pre-order exclusives, no special purchases, nothing.

Whoh...don't scare us like that lmao! Anyway back on topic, yeh I guess alot of developers do that, sacrifice a gameplay feature/piece of content in favour of better better graphics. Its annoying that stuff was taken out of customisation, but I still had a blast using it and making characters. But we won't know truely what its like until the final game comes out, Volition may surprise us with something!

I kind of wish that it was viable to release a game that looks like SR2 so there wasn't a need to worry about these technical aspects and we could get layering and tons of clothing options. Sadly this isn't the reality. Look at the Elder Scrolls series, even with its huge budget, every game has had to have fewer and fewer options available to be able to deliver at the new level of visual quality required for the time. Now in Skyrim chest pieces and pants are grouped together. At least we get to choose our own pants here.
